Shadow of the Road will now launch on March 10, 2027, replacing its previously announced November 12, 2026 release date. Owlcat Games and developer Another Angle Games announced the delay on October 9, with more work planned on tactical combat and party progression.

In the official release update, the team says it needs extra time to address remaining issues. Combat work will focus on balance and making positioning, initiative and ability choices matter in each encounter. Progression changes aim to give players more reasons to experiment with skills and adapt their party to different challenges.

The turn-based RPG takes place in a reimagined 1868 Japan where samurai and supernatural yōkai face steampunk machinery. Your choices shape relationships within the travelling party as well as the story.

The Steam page now lists March 10, 2027 and offers a demo for players who want to try the game before release. Owlcat says further updates will show the team's progress during the extra development time.
