4A Games has announced a free next-gen update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, arriving on PC on October 22, 2026, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29. Existing owners receive the update at no extra cost. Console players in Japan will get it in November.
The official announcement confirms native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions alongside PC improvements. 4A Games says this is not a full remaster or remake. It is keeping the existing Redux experience and visual style while updating both games for newer hardware.
What changes on consoles
On compatible consoles and displays, the update offers native 4K at 60 FPS or upscaled 4K at 120 FPS. The higher frame-rate option uses upscaling, so it should not be confused with native 4K.
Both games get 4K textures, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio and more environmental detail. Console improvements also cover lighting, shadows and particle effects, with hardware tessellation and runtime displacement. Community-requested bug fixes and quality-of-life changes are part of the update too.
PS5 players get DualSense Adaptive Trigger support and Power Saver Mode support. PS5 Pro also gets PSSR support, which 4A Games specifically lists for the Pro.
On Xbox Series X, the update adds TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing support. Xbox players also get Spatial Audio, Impulse Trigger support and Power Optimized Mode. Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld support are coming with the update.
PC gets DLSS and Spatial Audio
The PC update adds DLSS and Spatial Audio support, plus community bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Steam, Epic Games Store and Windows Store owners are among those receiving the free update on October 22.
4A Games will publish the full patch notes at launch. Those should provide the remaining technical details and the specific fixes for each platform.
Metro reaches 50 million sales ahead of Metro 2039
Alongside the update, 4A Games confirmed that the Metro franchise has reached 50 million copies sold worldwide, 16 years after Metro 2033 first launched. That total covers the series, rather than Metro Redux alone.
The Redux update arrives ahead of Metro 2039, the next mainline game, which launches on February 4, 2027. 4A Games is presenting it as a chance to revisit the earlier games or play them for the first time before the new release.
